Methyl p-tert-butylbenzoate is also used to produce the sunscreen agent avobenzone (also known as Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane). Avobenzone is a high effective sunscreen, which can absorb UV-A. it can absorb 280-380 nm UV when mixed with UV-B absorbent.
