Methyl p-tert-butylbenzoate is also used to produce the sunscreen agent avobenzone (also known as Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane). Avobenzone is a high effective sunscreen, which can absorb UV-A. it can absorb 280-380 nm UV when mixed with UV-B absorbent. Therefore, avobenzone is widely used in cosmetics, which has the functions of anti wrinkle, anti-aging, and resisting light, heat and moisture.
